Maicon Gimenes was born in 1979 in the City of Maringá, Brazil. He graduated in theology in his home country. In 2003 he moved to Hamburg, Germany where he was awarded a Master’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Hamburg.
The influences of his work as a psychologist and self-taught artist coalesced to form a multiple disciplinary artistic style free of classification according to the traditional academic “isms” for art forms:
“I do not seek any specific approach or stylistic definition for my artistic aspiration is merely expressive. I use colours to express subjectivity and to bring the inexpressible into view. My inspiration is the artistic creativity of children as they really paint, inspired and motivated by the natural flow that allows them not just to create images but to truly express themselves”
In philosophical and psychological areas Maicon Gimenes deals with themes focused on naturalistic perspectives as well as the conceptualization of utopia. As an example, in his work “Study of Skinner box, 2014”, the canvas features brushstrokes that “deconstruct” the current architectural footprint suggesting a critical reflection on systems to the viewer. Subjectivity, truth and other existential issues are addressed in his works as projections.
